We are writing to express our wholehearted support for Chris Gittins as a candidate for selectman in Bedford’s town election on Saturday, March 9th. As residents of Bedford for the past 14 years and parents of young children growing up in this wonderful town, we care deeply about where Bedford is and where it goes from here, particularly as it comes to supporting the needs of residents as the town continues to grow and change. We feel very strongly that Chris can and will be a tireless advocate for these needs.
We have known Chris since 2012, when our children attended the same cooperative preschool, and also as fellow parishioners at First Parish in Bedford. We have seen his dedication and passion for community and family in action firsthand, and his skill in not only identifying a need, but doing everything in his power to fill that need, whether it’s building a garden at a preschool, facilitating productive conversations about challenging topics involving highly diverse opinions, walking the walk on sustainability, or making an emergency delivery of milkweed leaves to our home to feed our very hungry monarch caterpillar.
Chris is forthright and principled. He has deep roots in this community, and a clear vision that spans the town’s evolution from rural to suburban, and builds on Bedford’s strong foundation to ensure that a safe, welcoming, healthy, sustainable town is accessible for all residents. A devoted father and scientist, Chris is both bold and pragmatic. We could never imagine him closing his ears, or his heart, to any perspective in a discussion.
The coming years will bring big opportunities and challenges in the areas of community, climate, and connectivity in our beloved town. We trust Chris to bring nuance where needed, decisiveness where demanded, and integrity always.
We encourage you to learn more about Chris at http://www.chrisgittins.org and at https://www.facebook.com/chrisgittinsbedford/ and to give him your vote on March 9th, or via absentee ballot beforehand.
As someone who grew up in Bedford, and who has been lucky enough to be able to own a home in Bedford for most of my adult life, I have seen how Bedford has grown and changed over the last four decades.
It has been interesting, exciting, and sometimes troubling to see how Bedford has changed and grown over the time I have lived here. We need thoughtful and considerate leadership as Bedford meets the challenges of the future to make sure that Bedford continues to be an excellent place to live. I think the Chris is that kind of leader, and I know that Chris loves Bedford as much as I do, from when he visited his grandparent’s house as a child, to more recently, when he chose to make Bedford home for his family.
Over the course of my conversations with Chris, it is clear that he has many good ideas about how to prepare for Bedford’s future. Chris’ thoughts about how to balance growth with the ability to keep Bedford affordable so that we could keep a range of ages in town; how to make Bedford transportation better; and how to manage Bedford’s impact on the environment were particularly thoughtful. Perhaps more importantly, Chris is willing to listen to other ideas, concerns, and criticisms, and have a good conversation about them.
Chris is the kind of smart, thoughtful leader that we need to help shephard Bedford.
On March 9th Bedford residents have an opportunity to build a better future for ourselves and our children by electing Chris Gittins to the Board of Selectmen. Chris is my neighbor and a long-time Bedford resident. I have watched as he and his young family renovated the house his grandparents built, into an energy efficient home that reflects their values.
As a Selectman, Chris would support our excellent schools, safe neighborhoods and fine police and fire departments. Moreover, he would bring energy, new ideas and a fresh perspective to town government. He is eager to strengthen community connections by expanding Springs Brook Park, improving pedestrian and bicycle routes, improving energy efficiency of public buildings and exploring measures to address traffic issues in Bedford.
Chris is a thoughtful individual who will bring a keen intelligence, a strong work ethic and a fresh perspective to town governance. He has my vote and I urge my fellow citizens to vote on March 9th and, in particular, vote for Chris Gittins for Town Selectman.
I am writing to express my support for Chris Gittins for Bedford Selectman.
I met Chris through his wife, Stacy, with whom I volunteered at Davis School and through our son’s friendship. I regularly see Chris patiently leading 4 “energetic” second grade boys towards becoming Scouts. After knowing him for just a few years, I enthusiastically accepted the role of treasurer for his campaign. I did this without any hesitation because Chris is well suited towards leading our town into the future that I want for my children, for all our children.
Chris Gittins is a person who spends the time to understand a problem in order to make an informed decision. He is committed to environmental responsibility and has taken well- informed steps towards that commitment. He has converted his yard to a low water, native landscape. When it came time to replace his ten-year-old car, Chris researched plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles and found one that saved his family money on operating costs as well as reduced their greenhouse gas emissions. Without seeking approval, Chris actively does what is good. He is a curious and excellent listener, as well as incredibly careful and thoughtful with his words.
Chris exemplifies what I love about living in MA and especially Bedford. He is thoughtful, welcoming, and community oriented. When Chris considers issues facing the town he tries to find a solution that benefits not just the entire community but the future. He will continue to support what makes Bedford wonderful while actively preparing it for future challenges. I wholeheartedly support Chris Gittins for Selectmen.
In this contested election for Selectman, I wholeheartedly will give one of my votes to Chris Gittins! I firmly believe that the “Three C’s” that he supports for Bedford (Community, Climate, Connectivity) are so foundational to the future ahead of us that we as a town and a society need someone who is willing to work tirelessly for such values. But even more importantly, I value the “Three I’s” that I see in Chris: Integrity, Intellect, Involvement.
Integrity: In my experience, Chris is someone who is very transparent about what he believes: he says what he will do and does what he says! Having met him through church activities, I know that he is not someone who shows up at church only during election season but actively participates in what he values! I know I can trust him to not make pledges lightly and know that he will not give me empty promises.
Intellect: When we elect a Selectman, we have to trust that they will think deeply on all issues that might come up in the future and make careful decisions based on facts and not merely sentimentality. Chris is a deep reader, is scientifically minded, and is the kind of person who will be sure he is well prepared before making any decision that comes before him.
Involvement: I value that Chris is the type of father and Town resident who gets involved. As a Cub Scout leader, a supporter of Girl Scouts, and the Democratic Town Committee, he acts on his values and participates. He is not someone who simply sits on the sidelines. He gives of his time and talents to what he values.
We are fortunate that Chris Gittins values Bedford enough to offer our Town his service! With his focus on Community, Climate, and Connectivity, he can be trusted to improve our quality of life by being on the Board of Selectmen. I urge you to vote for Chris Gittins for Selectman on March 9th!
As our town election approaches we want to provide an endorsement for Selectman candidate Chris Gittins.
We have known Chris and his family for the past five years since our children began school together.
We have worked alongside each other in community projects within our church and beyond. We have witnessed Chris’s tireless commitment to volunteer work and activism.
He is knowledgeable about renewable energy and climate science and has a vision for making Bedford’s energy use more sustainable.
We believe Chris would be a an energetic presence in our town government. With the skills to both listen and take action, we know him to be a good leader.
When we learned Chris was running, we felt hopeful and grateful that we have citizens like Chris who are willing to volunteer their time, live their values and step up to contribute.
I am supporting Chris Gittins for Selectman at the Bedford Town Election on Saturday March 9th.
I have known Chris for many years and long admired his special efforts to connect with people. We have frequently worked together as members of First Parish, Delegates to State Conventions and in his role as Co-Chair of the Bedford Democratic Town Committee and my role as Democratic State Committeeman.
His “Connectivity Skill” will serve him well on the Board of Selectmen.
He has a creative vision for Bedford which I share. He is constantly reaching out to others with an open mind. Please read his “Comprehensive Wrap up Statement” for more details.
I encourage your readers to vote on Saturday, March 9th and to give one of their 2 Board of Selectmen votes to Chris Gittins.
My friends and neighbors, I am pleased to have this opportunity to express to you my support for Chris Gittins in the upcoming election for Selectman. Having known Chris for ten years, I am confident that his career experiences as a scientist and engineer, along with his perspective as a parent with young children, will make him a valuable addition to our governing board.
As a mother who is concerned about the effects of climate change and how it will impact my children and future generations, I like that Chris is green-minded and plans to help Bedford reduce its collective carbon footprint and move more towards renewable energy for our community. Chris also wants Bedford to include safe walking paths and bikeways, which will help parents like me worry less about safety when our kids walk or bike to school and around town. He shares my concerns about the environmental and financial costs of food waste in our schools and supports plans to add separate collecting bins for liquids and compostable items in our cafeterias.
Chris is thoughtful, conscientious, and hardworking. He has the vision we need to lead Bedford forward in our changing world. I urge you to join me in supporting Chris Gittins in the March 9th election.
I wanted to write to offer my enthusiastic support for Chris Gittins as candidate for Bedford Town Selectman. Chris’s intelligence, measured and thoughtful style, strong commitment to his family, and long history with our wonderful town all speak to his passion and ability to succeed in this critical role.
My family has known the Chandler Gittins family since our children were little, and in this time, I have had the chance to observe Chris’s extensive knowledge and deep passion for issues that matter greatly to my own family.
As Town Selectman, Chris would bring a solid commitment to transparency in government and support for the public institutions that are extremely important to young families. Chris also truly believes in clean energy, and lives by this in his own life. Chris does not shy away from tough issues and welcomes serious conversations and action on the many issues that arise around family, community and politics.
I would encourage you to strongly consider him as your candidate for Town Selectman. Please take the time to learn more about him at his website here:
Thank you so much
